On the one hand, the government has visited Israel and pledged to support them (by what means, who knows). On the other they pledge humanitarian help to Gaza. Nowt wrong with that as such, but shouldn't they support one side or the other?
Their next double standard ploy is to rid 'us' by that they mean them, of the £8 million PER DAY bill spent on the so called 'migrants' and make our councils, host and pay for them. That will affect all of us as our bills will go up even more than already, to do so!
Maybe they should stop insisting that the RNLI 'rescue' them immediately they leave French territorial waters. They bring them here by their thousands into paid for accommodation, 3 square meals a day (which they moan about), ooudles of spending money and mobile phones, which they probably use to encourage those still waiting to 'come to the land of plenty'.
I mean, come on. People are so cheesed off with the RNLI that they are losing financial support, which is not fair on them.
It feels like we can do nothing about it, we just have to accept it. Don't get me started on the 'do gooders' who wave welcome banners at them. If they want to welcome them so badly, have them in their own homes and see how that goes.
Just who are we letting in? How do we know there aren't terrorist cells amongst them? Why are they primarily men - oh yeah, of course, once the men are given the right to live here, they can bring their families over can't they?
So then, what will the government do with that £8 million savings per day? Use it towards our NHS and school buildings that are crumbling and unsafe. Nah, they'll waste it on some hair brained scheme or put it into the dark recesses of the coffers!
Of course, silly me, we are entering the last phase of the current government before the next general election, that's why they are 'being so helpful'.....
I agree about the migrants, we're a small island, there's only so many people we can accommodate. It seems that none of the parties can come up with effective solutions - for anything. Keir Starmer seems like he's too scared to say anything definite about anything.
ReplyDeleteThey need to process them quicker then deport them quickly.
DeleteYou talk a lot of sense. They shouldn't be taking sides, because that fuels more wars. Send humanitarian aid to both sides. If they send arms or money to buy weapons, that only prolongs and promotes more wars. The western world are stoking up these wars.
ReplyDeleteI think we are going to see a lot of lost foreigners wandering the streets when they turf them out of the posh hotels. Some will survive by robbing shops for food, or anything else they can sell. It's going to get messy.
Yep and we will be more affected than we are already.
DeleteThe Australian government figured out how to stop their similar invasion by sea from the north - you just don't let them set foot on land, you intercept and divert, the message soon gets around that there is no point trying.
ReplyDeleteWhy any of these individuals are allowed to remain I cannot understand as by definition they are illegal immigrants, just deport them back to France, last time I looked it was still a (relatively) safe country?
A lot of them have travelled through lots of countries to get to us as they know we are a soft touch. A way to deflate the boats before they leave the European beaches would help!
DeleteI concur with the person who said put Doctors receptionists on the beaches and we'd have no immigrant problem as they'd all run away but, on the whole, I think blogs are better of they are non political. When politics get involved it can turn nasty.
ReplyDeleteWell, this new blog was always going to reflect what I am feeling. Believe me, I am holding back and being polite with my thoughts on everyday problems, I could have said way more.
DeleteWe are the same here in Canada. Supporting Israel, and sending humanitarian aid to Gaza. I would just ask for a cease fire and an exchange of hostages.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Me too but we aren’t in charge. Still wouldn’t stop the problems long term though.
DeleteAccording to gov.uk asylum seekers get just over £47 per week to pay for food, toiletries and clothes, a sum that drops to £9.58 if meals are provided with their accommodation. Pregnant women get an extra £3 per week. They're not allowed to work and processing can take years so if they've got loads of money to spend it's not coming from government coffers ( tax payers)
ReplyDeleteThere was a guy on tv yesterday who after his rent and bills are paid for, has just £30 left for everything else. Less than the average migrant mentioned above. He eats once a day if lucky, no heat or hot water and hand washes as he can’t afford the launderette. The real problem it seems, is too long in processing followed by too long in removal. More need to be trained and the exit route speeded up.
DeleteI saw him too, and would have been in a worse situation if J had lost his job when changes were made a few years ago as we'd have had enough in benefits for the council tax and not much else, but personally I don't think all the ills of the UK can be laid at the migrants' door. The government would like people to think it's all the fault of black and brown people in boats, as that takes the spotlight away from the real reason this country is in the state it is... 13 years of Tory government, who absolutely despise poor people, and Brexit.
DeleteI agree but what to do for the best. No government knows what state the finances are in until they get in. So if Labour get in, could they do anything about it? It would seem the conservatives like to spread things around themselves and their mates. PPE for example. Brexit hasn’t helped but we were lied to about that as well:( Lib Dem’s stand practically no chance either. Around here, everyone seems to fore Tory so those of us that don’t want to, have little other choice than to vote for a minor party. Honestly, who would be a politician.

DeleteSafe Tory seat here too, as despite living in a suburb of a poor town we're lumped in with a much wealthier area. It was the same when we lived in our last house, in a different part of this suburb. I've had people who've been cabinet ministers as my last 2 MPs. All I can do is exercise my right to vote and know that I tried to get rid of them. I think we know for definite that the finances are dire, and I think they'll be more so by the next election if Labour continue to hold a large lead in opinion polls. I truly believe the Tories will employ a scorched earth policy, and further line their own pockets as they do so.
