A tv programme where slow motion animated plasticine puppets play out everyday overheard conversations.
We visited a garden centre this morning to pick up a few things, stopping in their cafe for a coffee. On the table next to us, were a couple visiting their friend who was filling them in on his latest medical news.
No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t tune him out!
Genes for Huntington disease, inherited from his mum, patches of his brain not working properly, Ménière’s disease, vertigo etc. Doctors at the hospital who say they will refer him to other specialists but don’t.
He can apparently get around his house, go to the very local shop, just about get to the pub but can’t get home.
The mind boggles.
That would have quite put me off my coffee!!
ReplyDeleteWe found ourselves smiling. Obviously people don’t realise how much can be overheard.
DeleteLast time we were at Dobbies there was a young Mum and her daughter of about 6 on the next table. When the Mum went to put their order in at the counter, a hundred yards away but in view of their table, she said quietly to the little girl 'just scream if anyone tries to grab you'. When she got back the little girl in a very loud voice said 'I didn't scream because no one tried to grab me.' All the folks at the nearby tables looked over and smiled, it was lovely because the Mum then said 'That's because all these people are nice, but I just wanted to remind you.' It's a shame that this is what the world has come to isn't it.
ReplyDeleteSnippets of conversation can be good, sad or just upsetting.
Indeed and sad as it is, at least the daughter is being reminded.
