Carpets

DB took two days to clean the lounge carpet, followed by the one in the hall. Certainly smells better now. Seems to be the downside to having a dog. She doesn’t smell but we think it is the oils in her fur.

We have been out to two garden centres today looking for certain kinds of plants, no joy. Have you noticed how expensive plants are now, let alone the compost.

This is an expensive month for us, two decent sized purchases as well as making the final large payment on the car. It was all planned and saved for, but savings are greatly depleted now and we will start again in earnest.

  1. Yes, both plants and compost - especially the compost - have risen alarmingly in price. This new garden has cost us a lot, but it'll be worth it in the end. And yes, Betty makes the carpet and furniture smell, we have fleece blankets on the bed and sofa which get washed a couple of times a week.

    1. She has a cushion on the carpet but half the time, chooses the carpet!

  2. I am using our local pet shop for plants, getting them small and growing them on, I also use a local gardener, who sells plants through the spring and early summer.

    1. I am in need of a specific plant hence the trawl around. I hope to prevail.

  3. I try to buy a good sized plant that I can split into several and then grow on. I don't know if that would work for you, but it's a tip from Monty Don, that I've been following since we revamped the back garden in 2020.

    1. Yes, I do that as well. The plant type I need has to be tallish but stay or be trimmed into a column. Think I will go to our local nursery for a look. We just fancied a trip out:(

  4. I bet the house smells lovely and fresh with the carpets clean. Alan is due to do all ours again once the weather stays warm for a few days and we know they will dry quick-ish. It's gone cool again here today.

It's a shock when the savings plummet even if it is for a planned purchase isn't it.

    1. Indeed it is. Still the dining and bedroom carpets to do on the next warm days.

  5. I have discovered The Range often has very good deals on compost. And I've also realised that little old nurseries often sell plants cheaper than izzy wizzy garden centres with coffee shops and 'homeware' sections.

    1. Indeed, never usually use garden centres but we were out and about.

  6. |Luckily the car boot sales around here have plenty of plants for sale - and cheaper than garden centres although I've been very good this year as the garden is full and no room for any more flowers.

    1. Hardly ever go to a car boot but when we do, look at the plants and any fruit or vegetables for sale.
