Living in a hollow

Our village lies in a bit of a hollow, making two step verification by phone extremely difficult!

This morning for example, we tried to order oil via the internet and after 4 failed attempts gave up. Three were via mobile phone, one via the new digital land line.

Mobile phone strength at best is usually 2 bars, quite often 1 bar and regularly 0 bars. People can often be seen around the kerbside, phones held aloft, trying to get a signal.

In the end, for the oil order, we had to wait for the company to open and phone them up. They could tell we had tried to order, oh er Mrs!

  1. BT have been told to stop the roll out of digital land lines as they don't work for people with those necklace personal fall alarms! Bit late here.
Perhaps by the time I need one they'll have worked out a solution.

    1. This new digital age, including money and ID if they get their way, is going to be difficult.

  2. We've got the same problems with phones here, still no landline.

    1. Glad you now have your land line, mobiles can be a right pain.

  3. I love living in Norfolk, but hate the ineffective coverage of phone signals!

    1. It’s a guessing game where you get or lose signal isn’t it.

  4. I struggled with the phone coverage when we holidayed in Norfolk as I'm so used to having fast, reliable broadband here.

  5. We mostly have good coverage here in my province but even here there are many places in the north that there is dead space.

    God bless.

    1. Companies keep advertising better and better G but it would be nice just to have a consistent signal.

  6. I live in a Norfolk hollow too. I have no mobile signal at all, no bars ever. I now have my mobile phone permanently hooked up to wi-fi in the house and use it that way. Verification numbers used to have me in tears of frustration, now I feel just like everybody else and have a mobile phone signal in the house. It is lovely. Out in the garden, in the garage, it disappears again but in the house I am normal.
